The President of Southern Sudan is concerned about the formation of a broad government
Khartoum, 6 August 2018 – President of Southern Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit expressed his concern about the formation of a transitional government, indicating that the next government requires a lot of money to run the wheel of work.
The warring parties in southern Sudan signed a peace deal in Sudan’s capital Khartoum on Sunday to end the five-year civil war.
Under the agreement, Kiir will remain president and appoint opposition leader Riek Machar as first vice-president among five vice-presidents.
Speaking after the signing ceremony of the peace deal in Khartoum, President Kiir said the broad government in the transitional period would need huge sums in the face of an economic crisis in the country.
Kiir noted difficulties his government will face in providing cars and houses for five vice-presidents in the transitional period, calling on opposition parties to work with him to revive the country’s economy.
