Bakasuru: We will sign a peace agreement if the coalition’s comments are included in the agreement
Juba, 3 August 2018 – President of the National Movement for Change opposition to the government and member of the coalition, Joseph Benghazi in Kasuru, said that the coalition has not yet confirmed that it will sign the draft peace agreement, indicating that the meeting of the alliance in Khartoum on Friday with Sudanese mediation will clarify this.
“If we refuse to include them, we will sign, and if they refuse, we will continue consultations until a comprehensive agreement is reached,” he added.
He reiterated his readiness to hold consultations with the Sudanese mediation and the government in Juba to reach a peace agreement in southern Sudan.
The alliance of armed and peaceful opposition forces (Sawa) is expected to meet on Friday in the Sudanese capital Khartoum to present its comments on Sudanese mediation.
The Sudanese government, which mediated between the warring parties in southern Sudan, set the August 5 deadline for signing a peace deal after the opposition coalition refused to sign an agreement that does not guarantee its reservations last month.
