Turkey welcomes the signing of south Sudan peace agreement
Juba, August 08, 2018 – Turkey welcomes the signing of the peace agreement of south Sudan. According to a statement by the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry on Monday welcomed the signing by the parties of south Sudan the final agreement on power sharing and security arrangements.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the successful implementation of the agreement “will benefit the people of South Sudan friendly.”
“The implementation of the agreement will also serve peace and stability in the region,” the statement added.
On Sunday, the south Sudanese parties signed a final agreement on power sharing and security arrangements under the auspices of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and under the umbrella of the IGAD organization.
The agreement was signed by the Government of South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit, the leader of the armed opposition Riek Machar, and representatives of other political parties.
South Sudan was separated from Sudan by referendum in 2011, and since 2013 has seen a civil war between government forces and the opposition.
