UN: Agreement on the parties to the conflict in the South “a step forward”
Khartoum, July 27, 2018 – The United Nations has described the signing of the Agreement on Outstanding Issues of Governance in Southern Sudan by some parties participating in the negotiations in Khartoum as a step forward towards the peace process.
The United Nations spokesman noted that some other parties still have pending concerns that have not yet been resolved, stressing that the United Nations Mission in Southern Sudan (UNMIS) will continue to follow the ongoing discussions, while all parties are working towards a comprehensive and lasting peace agreement.
According to press reports, some parties to the conflict in southern Sudan signed an initials agreement in the Sudanese capital Khartoum to share power, while some other opposition forces refrained.
